
Steven Jarvi brings dynamic artistry and national acclaim to the Dearborn Symphony, where he serves as Music Director and Conductor. Since joining the Symphony, Jarvi has infused the orchestra’s programming with energy, depth, and a spirit of accessibility—crafting concert experiences that engage longtime classical enthusiasts while welcoming new audiences into the world of symphonic music.
Under his leadership, the Dearborn Symphony has expanded its artistic reach through ambitious programming, thoughtful collaborations, and a commitment to community connection. From showcasing world-class guest artists to integrating film, dance, and multimedia into performances, Jarvi’s vision has elevated the Symphony’s presence in southeast Michigan. His collaborative approach with musicians, staff, and community partners is helping to reimagine what a community orchestra can be—bold, inclusive, and forward-looking.
Praised by The Wall Street Journal as an “eloquent and decisive” conductor and hailed by the Miami Herald for his “uncommonly expressive and detailed” performances, Jarvi also serves as Principal Pops Conductor of the Toledo Symphony and formerly held prestigious posts with the St. Louis Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, and Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center. A Michigan native and University of Michigan graduate, he brings both world-class experience and a deep-rooted passion for artistic excellence in his home state.
