THE CONCERT EXPERIENCE

Yes! For most of our concerts, audiences sit quietly and focus on the music, similar to a movie theater. You know your family best, so we leave it to your judgment to decide what is right for your child.

Every person must have a ticket, even if your child plans to sit on your lap. This ensures we account for everyone in the building for safety reasons.

Families can also attend a dress rehearsal if that is more appropriate for your situation. Call the Symphony office for details.

If you have questions about which concerts might be the best fit, our team is happy to help.

For most performances, we offer discounted tickets for children 18 and under.

We love seeing your Symphony experience! Tag us in your photos and stories on Facebook or Instagram @dearbornsymphony. The best photo ops are in the lobby, at intermission, or before the performance begins. Please turn off your flash inside the theater.

Our musicians are incredible at what they do. To protect and respect their artistry, as well as the experience of those around you, video recording is not permitted.

In addition, we follow Ford Community and Performing Arts Center’s policy:
“FCPAC cannot allow reproduction of the event by any means including photography, video or tape recording, and other forms of reproduction.”

Once the concert begins, please silence your phone and tuck it away. Just like in a movie theater, that bright screen can distract others. If you’re following along with our digital program, reading extended notes, or checking your phone, please dim your screen or use dark mode.

Whatever makes you feel comfortable! At a Dearborn Symphony concert, you will see a wide variety of personal styles.

Because a night at the symphony is an experience, we invite you to dress for the evening you have planned:

Dressing up? Many of our patrons love making a special night of it, dressing up for a pre-concert dinner or cocktails after the performance.

Coming straight from work? Business casual is always a safe bet and very common in our audience.

Prefer to keep it casual? If you want to head home and throw on jeans and athletic shoes before the show, please do.

Ultimately, there is no dress code, your presence is what matters to us. Come as you are, relax, and enjoy the music.

This is a common question for new concertgoers. Traditional orchestral music often has shorter sections within a larger piece, called movements, with a brief pause in between. Audiences typically hold their applause until the very end of the entire multi-movement piece to let the music fully breathe.

You can always take your cue from the Conductor. When Steven lowers his baton and the musicians relax their playing position, that is your signal to let loose with your applause. That said, if you get swept up in the energy of the music and clap early, do not worry. We love your enthusiasm.

We understand that traffic happens or dinner runs long. To ensure our musicians and seated patrons can focus on the performance, the ushers will quietly seat late arrivals in the auditorium during the first appropriate break between pieces.

Please note: depending on how late you arrive there may not be anyone at the Theater Box Office or the Symphony table in the lobby to assist you with tickets.

Most Dearborn Symphony performances last about 90 minutes. This includes a short intermission, making it easy to plan your evening around a pre-concert dinner or post-show coffee with friends.

Yes! Most of our concerts feature a 15-minute intermission. This is a perfect opportunity to stretch your legs, visit the restroom, or head to the lobby. At select performances, a cash bar is available so you can enjoy a beverage and chat with fellow music lovers before the second half of the concert begins.
